The heartbeat function serves the purpose of periodically checking the status of nodes and verifying their activity. Its main objective is to ensure the active participation of nodes within the network. By regularly monitoring the heartbeat, the Bridge can effectively detect any inactive nodes and promptly take appropriate actions to safeguard the funds held in custody, thus ensuring the smooth functioning of the network.

To accomplish this, we have implemented a novel approach that leverages BLS signatures and their threshold variant, which are built into our library. This innovative utilization of BLS signatures facilitates a faster and more streamlined heartbeat mechanism. The improved efficiency and simplicity of this approach contribute to the seamless monitoring and verification of node activity.
